Q. Should a student who spends time, money and effort on piano lessons only learn to read music? A. We think they should ALSO learn to improvise AND create their own arrangements of favorite music. We also think they should be taught a memorized repertoire of more advanced sounding arrangements that are two or three years ahead of what they can read. Q. Why isn't improvising taught more? A. It's a little circular. Teachers learn from their teachers and no one in that loop knows how to improvise and/or how to teach it. Q. What would an application be of The MusicMaster improvisational training - what things would a student be able to do? A. Play from "fake books", create variations of existing melodies, write an arrangement for a few instruments, write the music for a song, compose an original melody and harmonize that melody. Q. Why would a student want to do that? A. Most don't analyze "why". Ask some students - Most just say they would like to do it. Students who learn to create music (vs. just reading it) have more FUN and they KNOW MORE (a lot more). We think it 's the teacher or parent's job to know "why". Q. How easy are your materials to use? A. For one thing, our MiniMaster™ Early Childhood Music Program and the beginnings of our MusicMaster™ Series for Piano are scripted. Any mother, home school parent, beginning teacher can begin to use our materials immediately. If you choose to teach some of our materials, we can provide some certification. AND WE PROVIDE ON-GOING EMAIL AND "Go To Meeting" Support Remember, also, that we use all of our materials in our own studios and know for sure that they work. Q. What are your feelings about a teacher's qualifications? A. Qualifications is the correct word. Maybe you've noticed the confusion in many fields over "credentials" vs. "qualifications". Some agency or organization may have "certified" someone (made them legal) but we all know accountants, doctors, real estate agents, school teachers, music teachers etc. that we don't want to use. The bottom line for us: Know More, Teach More and Know What You're Doing!
